Here at The Well-Adjusted Adult, I want to encourage you to get off-line and take the time to invest in yourself. Your are more than your responsibilities to everyone and everything else. I believe that a well-adjusted life is one in which ALL facets of who we are can be tended to. These events are about getting together and building a community in real life.
“But I won’t know anyone there.”
That’s the point! This community is being built to help the very people who are disconnected and need people who understand their struggle. I hope EVERYONE comes in without anyone they know so they can build new friendships and find exactly what they’re missing.
“But I’m socially awkward.”
Great! Me too! Just launching this is stepping WAY outside of my comfort zone. I am so damn awkward. Come be weird with me! I’ll hold your hand… metaphorically… unless you want me to literally hold your hand. I suppose I could be into that since it’s not flu season. I bet there’s gonna be some other awkward people there. That’s why we haven’t found our tribe. We are too afraid to let our weird shit hang out. I embrace your weird shit because I know the shit you think is weird is likely the shit that everyone else actually understands but doesn’t talk about it. Let’s talk about it together!
“But I have nothing to wear.”
I don’t give one single damn about what’s on your body. Come as you are. Come in leggings. Come in jeans. Come in a ball gown if that makes you happy. Just come as yourself because we wouldn’t want you to be anyone else. You are enough. You deserve a support system no matter what you wear or don’t wear.
“I’m probably going to chicken out and not go at the last minute.”
Don’t! Whatever your excuse is, that’s part of what’s keeping you isolated. I know because that’s me. I love making plans and not following through because I can’t resist the seductive call of my couch, begging me to sit back down where it’s cozy and safe. But that’s why I have found myself without any peeps of my own anymore. Wether it’s because you’ve moved, or work too much, or are stuck with your kids most of the time, you deserve to do this for yourself.
The only thing that isn’t allowed at this event is judgments. I got your back, jack! Commit to some space in your life for a tribe of your own and scroll back up to purchase tickets. I can’t wait to see you there!
